The Challenge gets The Big Buzz!

March 19, 2010 Posted by admin

We’re delighted to report that The Big Buzz will be working with the The Challenge over the coming months to develop a unique Training Resource that can be used to train the Leaders working with young people on this innovative programme.

The Challenge is a civic service programme like no other.  It takes young people from diverse backgrounds and throws them in at the deep end. They take on teamwork and leadership challenges that prepare them to design and deliver a project of their own that will bring their community together.

A creative and forward-thinking programme for 15-16 year olds, the programme lasts 2 ½  weeks full-time during the summer, plus 4 days over the following 5 weekends.

We’re really looking forward to working with the team and developing this exciting project over the coming months.

It’s all systems go and The Big Buzz is ready to launch into an exciting new Community Stars Programme for the London Borough of Harrow.  We’ll be working with a group of 12 young people to make a difference in the community, raise funds for charity and promote awareness of disability and sport.

As part of the programme the team will be co-ordinating and running a unique Wheelchair Marathon Challenge to raise money for Aspire – the UK’s leading charity supporting people with spinal injury.

Developing Award Winning Programmes

We are delighted to report that the ‘Community Stars’ Programme, developed by The Big Buzz for Harrow Young Peoples Services, has won an Award for Community Involvement and Volunteering.

The glitzy Awards Evening was hosted by TV Presenter Lizzie Greenwood and the Community Stars programme beat stiff competition to scoop the award for ‘Community Involvement and Volunteering’ and was collected by the team of young people from Harrow High School who successfully completed the programme during the summer of 2009.

As part of the community involvement programme, the team completed a make over and renovation of a children’s playground creating unique murals and providing a complete face lift for the area.

Peter Barker from The Big Buzz said, ‘having our work recognised in this way is the icing on the cake and reflects the remarkable efforts made by the team of young people who took part in this innovative programme.  We are delighted that the team were able to collect the Award on the night and feel confident that the impact of this programme will continue to have a positive effect on the team and local community for many years to come’.
